Over the past week, the Inter Miami CF Academy presented by Baptist Health was in action in MLS NEXT’s 2023 Generation adidas Cup that took place from April 1 to April 9 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The tournament featured 49 different clubs from 12 countries and four different continents in the U-15 and U-17 categories, and provided our Academy players the opportunity to test their skills in a world-class competitive international setting.
Our Academy U-15 and U-17 sides each competed in three group stage matches, followed by showcase matchups, gaining invaluable experience by taking on the youth sides of several household name international teams.
U-15
Our U-15 team took on Spanish giants Valencia CF and the academy teams of fellow MLS sides Philadelphia Union and Sporting Kansas City in the group stage.
The Academy’s U-15 group then followed up with a strong showing in its showcase fixtures, topping LAFC 2-1 and beating CF Montréal and Saint Louis CITY SC in penalties.
U-17
Inter Miami’s U-17 squad, meanwhile, faced Mexican powerhouse Club América and MLS sides LAFC and New York Red Bulls in the group stage, followed by important wins in its showcase games; defeating Mexican team Pumas UNAM 1-0 and Minnesota United 1-2, while also winning in a penalty shootout against Real Salt Lake and narrowly falling to Brazilian side Palmeiras FC.
