Inter Miami CF is quickly approaching the beginning of a thrilling 2023 campaign and the Club’s fourth year in the league. With this in mind, the Club announced today the promotion of Inter Miami CF II forward Shanyder Borgelin to the First Team to add more firepower to the team’s strong attacking unit.
“It’ll be my second year at the Club and I’m excited for it. I want to thank the Club for having me and the fans for their support,” said an enthused Borgelin.
“When I first heard that I was getting promoted to the First Team it was a surreal moment for me and my family. My agents called me and told me everything was worked out. Right then and there I kind of just broke down and cried because since I was a kid I wanted to be in this position and be able to play at the highest level,” added the 21-year-old target man of Haitian descent. “It's been a long wait, but I’m just happy to be living this moment right now.”
Borgelin then showed his appreciation for the player development pathway in place at the Club, as it was instrumental in earning his promotion to the Inter Miami First Team.
“One thing I noticed since I first got to Inter Miami was the culture at the Club. It's a culture about expressing yourself and I felt very comfortable since the first day… They brought me here the Club welcomed me with open arms. My teammates, coaches and even the fans. Right then and there I knew that I wanted to have a career here. Now I’m going to take everything that I learned last year and apply it to this year and continue to learn and do what I do… My first head coach here, Darren Powell, said to me,’we know what you’re capable of, we’ve seen you do it, and just express yourself each and every day in training and matches’. I’m happy that my work helped me get noticed by the First Team coaches and I’m just excited to continue working.”
The physically imposing striker and South Florida native also expressed his satisfaction for the region’s youth talents, who now have a local Club which they can aspire to be a part of.
“I was born and raised in Broward County in North Lauderdale about 10 minutes out from the stadium. I was here for 15 years of my life and then I moved out and finally came back last year… Growing up here [in Broward], I played travel soccer most of my life and that’s where I began my journey in the sport. Growing up we had the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, and teams up-state, but nothing local for young players aspiring to become top division professionals. It was hard for us to imagine a team being built in South Florida, and a lot of the good young players like me had to leave to different places to continue with our development. Having a team right in our hometown does a lot for the next generation. It can inspire younger players to become professionals. I’m happy that the next generation now has a development pathway available to them which can make it a lot easier.”
Borgelin subsequently dove into his style of play and what he aims to achieve in 2023 in his first season as a First Team squad member.
“I’m a complex player. I’m 6’4” and I’m more like a target player, but I’m also someone who likes to get involved. I like having the ball at my feet as well, but my main thing is that I love scoring goals. I love the feeling of the ball hitting the back of the net and being in positions to help my teammates. I’m a scorer,” he detailed.
“My goal this year is definitely to learn as much as possible from the veterans such as Josef Marínez, Gregore, DeAndre Yedlin, players like that, and apply what they teach me to succeed at the highest level,” added the goalscorer, who tallied a team-leading 14 strikes for Inter Miami CF II in 2022 in his first year with the Club.
Lastly, Inter Miami’s most recent addition left a message for the Club’s unwavering, loyal fanbase who will be excited to see him on the scoreboard as soon as possible.
“It's a huge blessing to be a part of this team and I’m ready to get started. Vamos Inter Miami!”
