Inter Miami CF Homegrown midfielder and Academy product David Ruiz has been called up by the Honduras national team for its upcoming CONCACAF Nations League matches. The call up marks his first at the senior international level.
Honduras and Ruiz will kick off their Nations League campaign on Friday, Sept. 8 with the team facing off against Jamaica on the road at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica at 9 p.m. ET, before heading home to Honduras to host Grenada on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the Estadio José de la Paz Herrera Uclés in Tegucigalpa at 10 p.m. ET.
The young midfielder has previously represented both the U.S and Honduras at the youth levels, participating in the U.S. U-19 Men’s Youth National Team training camp in January 2023 and in Honduras U-20 training camp in April 2023. Most recently, Ruiz was called up to represent Honduras in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup from May 20 to June 11 in Argentina, where he started one game and scored the opening goal against South Korea in the group stage of the tournament.Â
At the Club level, Ruiz has made two appearances for the First Team on short-term loans this season before officially signing as a Homegrown Player in late April. The midfielder has made 22 total appearances, 13 of them starts, across all competitions while registering a goal and assist, and helping the team win the 2023 Leagues Cup title.
Ruiz will join Honduras after Inter Miami’s match against LAFC away from home on Sunday, September 3 at 10 p.m. ET at BMO Stadium.
