Inter Miami CF Homegrown midfielder and Academy product David Ruiz has been called up by the Honduras National Team for its upcoming Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal fixtures against Mexico.

Ruiz and Honduras will first face Mexico at home at the Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa on Friday, Nov. 17 at 9 p.m. ET. The teams will then travel to Mexico City, to play the second and decisive matchup of the series at the Estadio Azteca on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 9:30 p.m. ET. The winner of the series will advance to the Concacaf Nations League Semifinals and secure a 2024 CONMEBOL Copa América USA berth.

The young midfielder was called up to represent Honduras in September during the Concacaf Nations League group stage. Ruiz subsequently made his senior team debut on the international stage for Honduras during matchday two, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 4-0 win against Grenada. Before this exciting career milestone, Ruiz also represented Honduras at the youth level. Notably, this year he played for the country’s U-20 team in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where he started one game and scored the team’s first goal in the competition against South Korea in the group stage. Most recently, Ruiz featured for Honduras’ U-23 team at the end of October and start of this month at the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile, starting in all three of their group stage matches against Colombia, the United States and Brazil. He also started against the Dominican Republic in the match for seventh place, helping the team with a goal to close out their participation in the competition with a 3-1 win.

At club level, Ruiz made a total of 34 appearances for Inter Miami across all competitions this season while netting three goals and dishing out one assist in 2023 in his first season as a First Team player. Notably, he came up big during the team’s 2023 Leagues Cup title run, scoring against the Philadelphia Union in the semifinals en route to victory.

The midfielder will join the Honduran national team after the Noche d’Or, Inter Miami’s home friendly match against New York City FC on Friday, November 10 at 8 p.m. ET at DRV PNK Stadium.
