Inter Miami CF midfielder and Academy product David Ruiz has been called up by the Honduras national team for its upcoming CONCACAF Nations League matches, marking his second call up at the senior international level.
Honduras and Ruiz will face off against Cuba twice during their matchday 3 and matchday 4 fixtures of the CONCACAF Nations League. First, the team will be facing them on Thursday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, before heading back home to Honduras to host them on Sunday, October 15 at 8 p.m. ET at the Estadio José de la Paz Herrera Uclés in Tegucigalpa.
The youngster most recently was called up to represent Honduras this past month during the start of the CONCACAF Nations League tournament, where he made his senior team debut at the international stage during matchday 2 by coming on as a second half substitute in a 4-0 win against Grenada. Prior to this exciting career milestone, Ruiz also represented Honduras in the youth levels this year; notably, in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where he started one game and scored the team’s first goal in the competition against South Korea in the group stage, as well as in a U-20 training camp in April.
Ruiz has made a total of 29 appearances for Inter Miami across all competitions this season, 16 of them starts, while netting three goals and dishing out one assist. Notably, he came up big during the team’s 2023 Leagues Cup title run when matching up against Philadelphia Union in the semifinals, scoring a goal in the 1-4 victory.
The Homegrown talent will join the Honduras national team after Inter Miami’s home match against FC Cincinnati on Saturday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET at DRV PNK Stadium.
