Inter Miami CF midfielder Diego Gómez has been called up to represent the Paraguayan national team for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
La Albirroja will first take on Peru on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Estadio Antonio Aranda in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay. The team will then visit Venezuela to face La Vinotinto in their second qualifying match on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. ET at Estadio Monumental de Maturín in Maturín, Venezuela.
Gómez has represented the Paraguayan national team across youth and senior levels. Gómez has excelled at the youth level, captaining the U-20 team to the 2022 South American Games title, and captaining the team again at the 2023 South American U-20 Championship. At the senior international level, the midfielder debuted for Paraguay in Sept. 2022, and has made four appearances, including one start. He most recently featured for the senior side in a June 2023 friendly against Nicaragua.
On the club side, Gómez made his Inter Miami debut on Wednesday, Aug. in a 3-1 victory over rivals Orlando City in the 2023 Leagues Cup Round of 32. He then went on to make five appearances in the competition to help Inter Miami win the title as the Club collected its first official piece of silverware. Most recently, Gómez registered his first Inter Miami goal in his MLS debut as the team earned an 0-2 win on the road against the New York Red Bulls on Aug. 26.
The midfielder will join the Paraguayan national team after Inter Miami faces LAFC on the road on Sept. 3 at BMO Stadium at 10 p.m ET.
