Inter Miami FC attacker Edison Azcona has been called up by the Dominican Republic national team for an international friendly this month.
The Dominican Republic is scheduled to play a friendly against Chile this upcoming Friday, June 16, at 8:30 p.m. ET. The match will take place at Estadio Sausalito in Viña del Mar, Chile.
Azcona, 19, has previously represented the Dominican Republic at the U-20, U-23 and senior levels. He most recently featured for the U-20 national team at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in what was a historic first participation for the Dominican Republic in a World Cup. Azcona himself made history at the competition, scoring the country’s historic first goal at any World Cup.
At the club level, Azcona was the second Inter Miami CF Academy graduate to have signed with the First Team as a Homegrown Player in 2021 and became the first Academy product to feature for the First Team in MLS, debuting in a regular season road match against Nashville SC as a substitute. So far during the 2023 MLS regular season, Azcona has appeared in two games. He has also made four appearances, all of them starts, and registered a goal for the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro side Inter Miami II this season.
