Inter Miami CF Homegrown attacker Edison Azcona has been called up by the Dominican Republic national team for their upcoming CONCACAF Nations League matches.
Los Quisqueyanos will face off against Barbados twice during their matchday 3 and matchday 4 fixtures of the CONCACAF Nations League tournament, taking them on first on Friday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET at Wildey Turf in Wildey, Barbados before heading back home to the Dominican Republic to host them on Monday, October 16 at 8 p.m. ET at the Estadio OlÃmpico.
Azcona has represented the Dominican Republic consistently at the U-20, U-23 and senior levels. Most recently, the Inter Miami Academy product was called up to represent his country this past month during the start of the CONCACAF Nations League tournament, where he featured in both matches; coming on as a second half substitute during a 0-2 loss against Nicaragua before starting for the Dominican Republic against Montserrat and helping his country earn a 3-0 win. Notably, this year Azcona also represented the Dominican Republic U-20 national team at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he made history by scoring the country’s first historic goal at any World Cup competition. The country’s participation at this year’s U-20 World Cup also marked their first appearance ever at a World Cup of any category.  Â
At the club level, Azcona became the second Inter Miami CF Academy product to earn a First Team contract and the first to feature for the First Team in the MLS, coming on as a substitute in the second half and debuting in a regular season road match against Nashville SC in May 2021. In 2023, Azcona has made five MLS regular season appearances for Inter Miami and five MLS NEXT Pro regular season appearances for Inter Miami CF II.
The Homegrown talent will join the Dominican Republic after Inter Miami’s home match against FC Cincinnati on Saturday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET at DRV PNK Stadium.
