Inter Miami CF Academy player Victor Fung has been called up by Canada for the upcoming 2023 U-17 FIFA World Cup. The 19th edition of the competition will take place from November 10 to December 2 in Indonesia.
24 nations from six confederations are set to compete. Teams are separated into six groups of four, with the top two teams in each group and the four best third-place finishers advancing to the knockout rounds.
Beyond the group stage which runs 10-18 November, the Round of 16 is scheduled for 20-21 November, the Quarterfinals are scheduled for 24-25 November, the Semifinals on 28 November, the Match for Third Place on 1 December, and the Final on Saturday 2 December.
Canada will compete in Group B alongside Spain, Uzbekistan and Mali.
Canada Group Stage Schedule
- November 10 at 8 a.m. ET - Spain vs. Canada, Stadion Malahan
- November 13 at 8 a.m. ET: Uzbekistan vs. Canada, Stadion Malahan
- November 16 at 5 a.m. ET: Canada vs. Mali, Stadion Gelora Bung Tomo
Fung, 16, has previously represented Canada at the youth levels, most recently being called up by the country’s U-17 side for the team’s training camp and friendlies in late September and early October. Notably, he helped the team clinch their spot in the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia at the Concacaf U-17 Championships that took place earlier this year in February in Guatemala.
At the Club level, the defender currently represents the Academy’s U-17.
