Touchline Talk
Inter Miami CF secured its first win of the 2022 MLS Regular Season on Saturday afternoon in a 3-2 thriller against the New England Revolution. Leonardo Campana led the line with a hat-trick, earning Inter Miami all three points at DRV PNK Stadium.
The forward expressed that, while his performance will catch headlines, the team earned this win as a unit.
“I feel really happy. I think this is the result of the work we have been doing. This is our first win of the season and I’m proud to be a part of this team, proud of my teammates that are members of Inter Miami. I want to congratulate my teammates because without them I wouldn’t have scored my goals.”
The Ecuadorian forward also praised the strengthening bonds among the team’s offense.
“We have a really good relationship. This team is characterized by having good people with ambition. We’ve developed good partnerships, Robbie [Robinson] delivered an assist, Ari [Lassiter] another one, and I think everything is about communication. We’re players with ambition and I think we’re going to achieve great things for Inter Miami.”
Campana’s hat-trick was the first ever scored by an Inter Miami player, capping off a special day for the Ecuadorian, celebrated by both the electric home crowd and his family in attendance.
Campana, overwhelmed with emotion, commented on scoring a hat-trick in front of his family.
“Honestly, very happy. They know what I’ve been through in the last two years. The last two years have been very hard on me and honestly my family has always been there for me. I’m very appreciative of them.”
While maintaining that there is still work to be done, the young forward shared a succinct message on the team’s ambitions moving forward.
“This is the start of something good."
