Inter Miami CF announced today that international fútbol giants Club Atlético River Plate and renowned Colombian side Millonarios F.C. will face off on Saturday, January 14 at DRV PNK Stadium, a can’t miss matchup labeled as the Duelo de Millonarios.

The friendly at DRV PNK Stadium will match up two of the most successful sides in South American fútbol in River Plate, historic and iconic Argentinian giants, and Millonarios, Colombian powerhouse who recently won the 2022 Copa Colombia title.
Based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Los Millonarios have produced a never ending list of some of world beaters that have endeared fans, including Inter Miami’s very own Federico and Gonzalo Higuaín, Ballon d’Or winners Alfredo Di Stefano (1957 and 1959) and Omar Sivori (1961), El Principe Enzo Francescoli, Ariel Ortega, Pablo Aimar, Javier Mascherano and, most recently, young exciting prospects such as Julián Álvarez, among many more. River is one of the winningest sides in the history of South American fútbol, having an impressive trophy cabinet that holds 35 Argentine Primera División titles, four CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores titles, a CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana title, three Argentine Cup titles and many more. The Duelo de Millonarios (in English, Millonarios match) could very likely be the first time fans are able to witness the thrilling start of Martin Demichelis era, as the former Argentinian international has been named the predecessor of head coach Marcelo Gallardo following the highly successful manager’s decision to step aside at the end of the 2022 season following nine title-filled years.
Millonarios, meanwhile, have totaled 20 titles in club history to be the second most-winningest side in Colombia, with Los Embajadores claiming 15 Colombian First Division titles, a CONMEBOL Copa Merconorte title and three Copa Colombia titles among the silverware in their collection. Some of their top talents that featured for the Colombian side include Inter Miami’s young dynamic player Emerson Rodriguez, Di Stefano (1949-53), Venezuelan national team goalkeeper Wuilker Fariñez (2018-2021), and MLS standouts and MLS Cup winners Chicho Arango (2019-2021) and Román Torres (2012-2015).
The Argentine and Colombian teams will call the state-of-the-art Florida Blue Training Center home during their 2023 preseason. The 50,000-square-foot training facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, boasts six natural grass fields and one turf for the development of professional and youth players.
The announcement comes as the Club hosts star-studded sides Colombia and Paraguay ahead of Saturday’s international friendly, on the heels of the United States Women’s National Team hosting Germany at DRV PNK Stadium after training at the Florida Blue Training Center, and just a few months after FC Barcelona and Argentina called the facility home-base for a week each. The international club friendly marks yet another proof point as Inter Miami and South Florida grow toward the goal of building the home of fútbol in North America.
