Inter Miami CF earned a 0-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes Wednesday, Aug. 3 at PayPal Park. Jean Mota’s left-footed strike in the 12th minute was the difference as the Herons held on in the closing minutes to claim all three points on the road.

Midfielder Gregore addressed media today praising Mota for his goal, as it's a product of the hard work put in at the club’s training grounds.

“My feeling, and of my teammates when he scored, was of a lot of happiness. I felt as if I had scored myself because I see how my teammates work every day and this is a reward for his hard work and commitment.”

The captain responded with a smile on his face when asked when a first goal of his own was coming.

“I’m relishing [the opportunity to get] my first goal for Inter Miami, it will be gratifying.”

Gregore then talked about the team’s collective effort in earning the clean sheet against San Jose.

“I think the forwards helped us defend. I believe the defense begins at the attack so when the forwards help us, they help us defend the goal and avoid conceding.”

Now in Montréal for the second leg of the club’s two-game road trip, head coach Phil Neville also spoke to media and emphasized the importance of building off of Wednesday’s result.

“The squad’s full of confidence. We were really pleased with them the other night…We took a major step in terms of winning on the road and tomorrow is an even bigger step because we’re playing against a team that I think is one of the best in the conference. We’re going to have to be more ruthless and defend even better to get a result in this game. But, the confidence that we're showing, the confidence and belief that the team has means that we’re going into the game really excited with the challenge that’s ahead.”

Inter Miami CF will close out its two-match road trip Saturday, August 6 when it takes on CF Montréal in the first of two 2022 regular season meetings between the two sides. Kick off at Stade Saputo is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. and will be streamed live on CBS 4, UniMás, 790 AM The Ticket and the Inter Miami App.
