Inter Miami CF forward Gonzalo Higuaín has been named to the MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi for Week 23 of the regular season. The nomination to the starting XI comes after Higuaín’s first-half hat trick helped guide the Herons to a 4-4 draw against FC Cincinnati the night of Saturday, July 30, at DRV PNK Stadium. Higuaín joins goalkeeper Drake Callender, defender Damion Lowe and forward Leonardo Campana as the fourth Inter Miami player to earn multiple MLS Team of the Week selections this season.
Higuaín’s brilliant first-half display featured goals from all over the pitch. First, he broke open a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute, connecting on a powerful free kick from the edge of the box. Then, in the 37th minute, Alejandro Pozuelo found Higuaín in the box, who dribbled past the keeper and finished with his left foot to reclaim the lead for Inter Miami. Higuaín’s penalty kick during first-half stoppage time completed his hat trick and gave Inter Miami a 3-2 lead heading into the break.
The Argentine has now scored in three of his last four MLS appearances, increasing both his 2022 season goal tally and career tally against FC Cincinnati to seven.
Inter Miami has now had a player or coach represented in the Team of the Week in 11 different weeks during the 2022 MLS regular season thus far.
