Inter Miami CF announces today it has acquired versatile midfielder and fullback Mo Adams. The 2019 US Open Cup and Campeones Cup winner joins the Club from Atlanta United FC in exchange for the rights to goalkeeper Dylan Castanheira. The Nottingham, England native will not occupy an international roster spot on the Club’s roster as he possesses a United States Green Card.
“Mo is another acquisition that improves the team leading into next year. He is an athletic and skillful player, can feature as a midfielder and right back, and brings a winning mentality that will be valuable for our roster,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
Adams, 25, joins Inter Miami after four years of MLS experience, in which he has featured for Atlanta United FC (2019-2021) and Chicago Fire FC (2018-2019), totaling 50 MLS appearances, as well as numerous appearances in top international competitions Concacaf Champions League and Campeones Cup. The versatile player was part of the Atlanta United squad that won the U.S. Open Cup and Campeones Cup in 2019.
Most recently, Adams featured for Atlanta United for two-and-a-half campaigns, registering 28 overall appearances for the Five Stripes, also contributing with one goal and one assist. The midfielder/defender also played several matches alongside Inter Miami stalwart center back Leandro González Pirez in 2019.
Prior to joining Atlanta, Adams was selected by the Chicago Fire as the 10th overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. In Chicago, he recorded 25 overall appearances, 15 of them starts, in a year and a half.
Adams was a standout player for Syracuse University during his two-season stint at the collegiate level. He was a two-time All-ACC selection, won the Cuse Award for Male Rookie of the Year, was a member of the ACC All-Academic Team and the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and captained the team in his sophomore year.
After starting his career in the youth ranks of Nottingham Forest in England in 2008, Adams also appeared for the Derby County U-23 side in the U-21 Premier League (2013-2015), Boston United in England’s National League North (2015-2016), Reading United in the Premier Development League (2017), and FC Tulsa (2018) and Atlanta United 2 (2019) in the United Soccer League.
