Inter Miami CF announced today that it has exercised the option to complete the permanent transfer of forward Leonardo Campana from English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. with a contract through the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with a Club option to extend the contract for the 2026 campaign.
Campana will occupy a Young Designated Player slot on the roster.
“We’re excited to make the transfer for a player of Leo’s quality permanent. His development since arriving at the Club a year ago has been fantastic and we’re confident that he will continue to grow as he helps Inter Miami work towards a successful season competing in three competitions in 2023 and beyond,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
“I’m thrilled to be able to stay at this great and ambitious Club that has become a second home for me. I look forward to continuing working hard to help the team and build towards a strong 2023 season, as we aim to achieve important objectives to bring our incredible fans the joy that they deserve,” said Campana.
Campana enjoyed a stellar debut season with Inter Miami in 2022, making 26 MLS appearances, 21 as a starter, and registering 11 goals to finish as the team’s second highest scorer, while also recording two assists. The Guayaquil, Ecuador native scored once in the Club’s first-ever Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign as well. Notably, the 22-year-old striker made history by scoring the first hat trick in Club history in Inter Miami’s home win at DRV PNK Stadium against the New England Revolution on April 9.
Don’t miss the opportunity to watch Campana in action for the first time in 2023 during Inter Miami’s international friendly against historic Brazilian side Vasco da Gama on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. ET at DRV PNK Stadium.
