This past week was Book Fair week for Inter Miami CF! As part of the Club’s continued support of childhood literacy, Inter Miami and partner Gallagher collaborated with Scholastic Book Fair once again to bring Book Fairs to Title 1 Public Schools in Miami-Dade and Broward County. This marks the Club’s third year donating books to kids in an effort to promote literacy.
This year, Inter Miami and Gallagher donated over 1,700 books to students at Frederick Douglass Elementary School and Oriole Elementary School. To date, the Club has donated over 4,800 books via their Book Fair program, making sure that kids in underserved communities also had the opportunity to take home free books.
The Book Fairs kicked off on Tuesday, Sept. 12 when First Team players Noah Allen and Kamal Miller visited Frederick Douglass Elementary School in Overtown. Both players spent the afternoon helping kids pick out their books and spending quality time getting to know some of the students.
The fairs continued on Thursday, Sept. 14 with a visit from First Team players Victor Ulloa and Chris McVey to Oriole Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale. This was the third year the Club returned to Oriole, visiting some of the students they have been supporting since 2021.
“I think it's important for the kids. Seeing them smile and the happiness that they get from receiving a book is incredible. It's an amazing program that the team has been able to provide now for three years straight. This is my second time at this school, so it's nice to come back and give back,” said Ulloa.
“Bringing literacy helps our children who are underprivileged in most cases, and it brings awareness to them. We try to instill in them the importance of reading, because reading brings success, and we are orioles, and orioles soar. And the only way that we can soar is through reading ,” said Oriole Elementary School Assistant Vice Principal Seporia Bolden. “With Inter Miami and Gallagher partnering with us and bringing the book fair to our school, it gives us the chance to open the eyes of our scholars so that they can see that not only is literacy a thing during the learning process, but also in the sports world. So they get to integrate the meaning of sports as well as of the education of the school.”
Twenty minutes of reading a day can make a vast improvement in a child’s literacy levels, skills that are essential for future success. By donating free books to students via Scholastic Book Fairs, Inter Miami strives to make reading fun and help motivate kids to pick out their favorite books to take home.
