Inter Miami CF II defeated New England Revolution II at DRV PNK Stadium on a thunderous Sunday evening. This result extends the team’s unbeaten run to six.
Inter Miami opened the match with a starting XI featuring CJ dos Santos in goal; Harvey Neville, Modesto Mendez, Abel Caputo, and Noah Allen in the backline; Benjamin Cremaschi, Braxton Najib, and Lawson Sunderland in midfield; Romeo Beckham, Dairon Reyes, and Shanyder Borgelin formed the front three in attack.
Inter Miami CF II secured an early lead in the 17th minute; striker Borgelin tactically maneuvered his way through New England defenders before landing a calculated strike into the left side of the net.
Hungry to lock the lead, the team then scored two quick back to back goals. First in the 36th minute, when midfielder Cremaschi found the ball after a cross from Allen from the left wing and ensured its delivery into the back of the net with a right-footed strike inside the box. The goal was Cremaschi’s third of the season Soon after in the 37th minute, Borgelin scored his second goal of the night on an assist from teammate Beckham. The assist was the ninth one for Beckham this campaign, who continues to lead the team in assists.
To close out the first half, Inter Miami II goalkeeper Dos Santos performed a diving save in the 43rd minute to prevent New England a header from entering the goal as the visiting team sought their first goal.
New England, however, was able to cut one back before the break through a Marcos Domingos Dias goal in the first minute of added time. The teams entered half time with Inter Miami CF II up by two.
Entering the second half, Inter Miami CF II defended stoutly to deny their competitors the opportunity to equalize the score.
The team then struck again through a penalty by Borgelin in the 53rd minute that secured the forward’s hat trick and extended its lead to three. With his hat trick against New England, the Haitian took his tally in the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro regular season to 11 as he continues to be Inter Miami II’s top scorer.
The visitors then answered back with a goal by second half substitute Meny Silva inside the box in the 68th to make the scoreboard 4-2.
Inter Miami II held onto its lead during the remainder of the match to claim another three points at home and defeat New England for a second time this season.
Inter Miami CF II will return to the road Sunday, Aug. 14 when it faces Philadelphia Union II at 6 p.m E.T for the second and final regular season match between two clubs. Inter Miami II tied Philadelphia Union 3-3 at DRV PNK Stadium in May, ultimately falling 3-4 on penalty kicks.
