Inter Miami CF announced today that it has agreed to loan striker Shanyder Borgelin to USL Championship side New Mexico United for the remainder of the 2023 season.
Borgelin, 21, officially signed as a Homegrown Player for the First Team ahead of the 2023 season and made his MLS debut in the season opener against CF Montréal on Feb. 25, coming on as a second-half substitute and scoring his first MLS goal. He has gone on to make 10 MLS appearances in 2023, as well as three U.S. Open Cup appearances, scoring one goal in the tournament.
The striker signed for Inter Miami CF II ahead of the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season in 2022. In his first season with the team, the striker was Inter Miami II’s leading scorer with 14 goals, which was tied for the fourth-most in the league. He also chipped in with three assists in his 23 appearances, 15 of those starts.
Prior to returning to South Florida and joining Inter Miami, Borgelin spent time in the Philadelphia Union academy and with Philadelphia Union II in the USL Championship, where he made 25 appearances over two seasons.
