Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed goalkeeper Owen Finnerty on a short-term agreement from the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro team Inter Miami CF II ahead of Saturday’s match against Chicago Fire at Soldier Field. This marks the goalkeeper’s first MLS call-up.
After debuting in the MLS NEXT Pro in May 2023, Finnerty has registered 1,680 minutes across 17 matches, showcasing his shot-stopping ability and consistency.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper featured for Michigan State University during his senior season, making 17 starts and leading the Spartans with 79 saves. Before transferring to Michigan State, Finnerty represented the University of Michigan for three seasons, making 40 appearances overall.
Per MLS rules, the short-term agreements allow clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
