Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed defender Tyler Hall and midfielder Lawson Sunderland on short-term agreements from the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro team Inter Miami CF II. Hall and Sunderland will be available for tonight’s MLS match at home against the Columbus Crew at 7:30 p.m. ET at DRV PNK Stadium.
This will be the third and second time respectively that Hall and Sunderland have been signed on short-term agreements by the Club’s First Team for Inter Miami 2023 MLS regular season fixtures.
Sunderland, 21, joined Inter Miami CF II ahead of the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro season and has gone on to make 33 appearances, 28 of them starts, to date, scoring five goals and registering three assists as well. This season, the midfielder has made 14 appearances, starting 11 times, and registered three goals and an assist.
Hall, 17, made his professional debut with Inter Miami CF II last season in the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro regular season while being on an Academy contract before signing with the Second Team in March of this year. Prior to signing in 2023, the defender also played for the Club’s U-17 Academy Side, notably featuring in the team’s run to the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup semifinals. He also made nine appearances with six starts for the Second Team in 2022, including starting the team's first match of the season, a 2-0 win over Columbus Crew 2 in which he became the youngest starter in the league in its first week, then only 16 years old. So far in 2023, he has made 12 appearances, 10 of them starts, registering a total of 922 minutes.
At the international level, Sunderland has previously been called up by the USYNT U-18 side. Hall, meanwhile, has consistently been called up by the U.S. youth national teams, most recently featuring and captaining the U.S. U-17 MYNT throughout the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship as the team qualified for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be played later this year.
Per MLS rules, the short-term agreements allow clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.
