Inter Miami advanced to the next round of the U.S. Open Cup following its 3-1 win against South Georgia Tormenta FC on May 10 in the first-ever matchup of the historic competition to be played at DRV PNK Stadium. With the victory, Inter Miami has now won five out of its last seven fixtures across all competitions.
Forward Ariel Lassiter scored a brace to register his first two goals for the team. Following the match, Lassiter spoke about his performance throughout the evening, but is also looking ahead to trying to secure another win later on Saturday.
“On the individual side, happy to finally put two in the back of the net and the final third piece for me. But now, just continuing to look forward and hopefully do it on the weekend as well,” said Lassiter.
“I think the important thing is to just trust the coaching staff and to really buy into what the team and what the club is trying to do. Like Phil [Neville] said in the past, as long as we’re one unit moving in the same direction with the same goal, all the results and the things that we want to see on and off the field will follow,” added the Costa Rican player.
Head Coach Phil Neville was pleased with the win and booking a spot in the next round, but challenged the squad to strive to play at their best level as he knows what his players are capable of.
“We are in the next round, that’s all that matters. We want to be challenging for this competition. Everyone knows the levels need to be better,” emphasized Neville.
Inter Miami will return to the pitch at DRV PNK Stadium to host D.C. United on Saturday, May 14 at 8 p.m. ET. Fans can purchase tickets ahead of the match HERE.
