Inter Miami CF forward Leonardo Campana has been voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire for the sixth week of the 2022 regular season.
Campana registered a perfect hat-trick, scoring with his right, left and head, to lead Inter Miami CF past the New England Revolution by 3-2 on Saturday, April 9 at DRV PNK Stadium. Campana’s hat-trick, which was the first recorded by an Inter Miami player for the club, also earned him a spot in the MLS Team of the Week.
On Saturday, Campana led the response for Inter Miami CF as they trailed the New England Revolution by a goal, equalizing in the 17th minute with a well taken header to the far post off of Ariel Lassiter’s cross.
Only six minutes later in the 23rd minute, Robbie Robinson squared the ball from the left side of the penalty box to Campana, who would fire the hosts into the lead with a left footed shot into the roof of the net.
In the 88th minute, Noah Allen and Bryce Duke played in tandem to produce the opportunity for the game winner. Duke played a ball into the six yard box to Campana, which was initially deflected. Campana stayed with the play and the ball eventually fell to him, allowing him to deftly poke the game winner past New England’s Brad Knighton.
Inter Miami CF are back in action on Saturday evening when they face the Seattle Sounders for the first time, on the road at Lumen Field at 10 p.m. ET. Inter Miami CF fans can follow the action on FS1, Fox Deportes and 790 AM The Ticket.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
