Inter Miami will continue its inaugural season with a matchup against a new opponent, hosting the New York Red Bulls at Inter Miami CF Stadium on Wednesday. The team is coming off of its first road victory, defeating Atlanta United FC 1-2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Inter Miami was propelled to victory by goals from Juan Agudelo and Brek Shea. Rodolfo Pizarro assisted Shea’s goal, putting him at four assists on the season, in addition to his three goals, both tallies leading the team. The three points earned in the victory vaulted the team up to within one point of the playoff line with 11 games left in the regular season.
The victory over Atlanta continued a positive stretch for Inter Miami in which it has recorded just one loss in five matches. The team will also enter Wednesday’s home match against the Red Bulls with an unbeaten record of two wins and one draw at Inter Miami CF Stadium.
The matchup will also offer a chance at a reunion between Inter Miami captain Luis Robles and his long-time team in the New York Red Bulls. Robles played for the Red Bulls for eight seasons, joining the team in 2012 and departing after the 2019 season. In that time he set the MLS ironman record, appearing in 183 straight games, won the 2015 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award, and won the 2013, 2015 and 2018 Supporters’ Shields. Overall, Robles made 238 regular season appearances and 23 postseason appearances for the Red Bulls.
Inter Miami’s Juan Agudelo, meanwhile, may also have the opportunity to face his former club. The American forward began his professional career with New York, signing a Homegrown player contract in 2010. He went on to make 33 regular season and three postseason appearances for the team, registering six goals and three assists in the process.
Another reunion may be on the cards as rookie right back Dylan Nealis will have the opportunity to face his older brother, Sean Nealis, a 2019 SuperDraft pick by the Red Bulls. Sean Nealis is a defender who has appeared in three matches for the Red Bulls this season, registering a total of 266 minutes played.
The New York Red Bulls will enter the match coming off the back of a 0-1 loss to FC Cincinnati at Red Bull Arena. The team currently sits eight in the Eastern Conference, just three points above Inter Miami. The Red Bulls have put together a record of four wins, two draws and six losses in 2020. The team has been led by midfielder Kaku, who has registered one goal and three assists so far this season and defender Kyle Duncan, who has tallied two goals and two assists.
