Positive Record Against Cincinnati
Inter Miami will continue its 2022 MLS campaign this Saturday aiming to continue its positive record against the Orange and Blue, having won all four of its previous meetings against the Ohio based side.
Inter Miami first met FC Cincinnati at DRV PNK Stadium on MLS Decision Day on Nov. 8, 2020, a historic match for the club as the 2-1 win made the team only the seventh franchise in league history to clinch an MLS Cup Playoffs spot in its inaugural year.
Gonzalo Higuaín leads scoring against FC Cincinnati with three goals in four encounters. The Argentine bagged the game winner in a 3-2 thriller in the first-ever match at TQL Stadium on May 16, 2021. During the team’s second trip to TQL Stadium on September 4, 2021, Inter Miami earned a victory with a late game winner by Brek Shea in the 85th minute. Inter Miami also scored its highest goal tally in a match in club history during a 5-1 win in FC Cincinnati’s last visit to DRV PNK Stadium on Oct. 10, 2021.
Scouting FC Cincinnati
FC Cincinnati heads into Saturday following a 2-1 road victory against Orlando City, snapping a 14-game losing streak stretching back into their 2021 campaign. This victory marks head coach Pat Noonan’s first victory for the club since joining in the offseason from Philadelphia Union. Team leading scorer Brandon Vázquez bagged a brace in the match at Exploria Stadium.
Familiar Faces
Saturday’s contest at TQL Stadium, which will be the first meeting between the sides this year, will also feature reunions between teammates and known rivals. Cincinnati Head Coach Noonan shared the pitch with Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham in seven matches for the LA Galaxy, and played against Inter Miami Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson in nine MLS matches.
Two pairs of international teammates may also face each other on Saturday. DeAndre Yedlin and Geoff Cameron have played 1,485 minutes together over 22 matches for the USMNT, including matches in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Copa América Centenario in 2016, and seven World Cup Qualifying matches. They also faced each other in three Premier League matches between 2015-2018 during their stints in England.
Damion Lowe and Alvas Powell have played 2,389 minutes in 29 matches alongside each other for the Jamaican National Team. During this time for the Reggae Boyz, the pair has played 13 matches in 2017, 2019 and 2021 editions of the Concacaf Gold Cup, and three FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. The pair had also played together previously for the Under-20 Jamaican National Team in 2013. Powell may face his former side Inter Miami CF, as he was part of the club’s inaugural squad in 2020.
