Inter Miami CF II (4W-14L-3D, 15 points) suffered a 5-0 road loss against New York City FC II on Thursday night at Belson Stadium.Â
Miami’s starting XI featured Owen Finnerty in goal; Cesar Abadia-Reda, Tyler Hall, Farid Sar-Sar, and Nykolas Sessock in the backline; captain Lawson Sunderland managing the midfield with Santiago Morales and Alejandro Flores; and Lucas Meek and Felipe Valencia controlling the wings with Bryan Destin leading the attack. Â
It was NYCFC II who got on the board early, with a first minute goal that saw striker Matt Myers find the back of the net with a right footed shot towards goal, coming off a flicked back pass from Klevos Haxhari inside the box. New York would then strike again, extending its lead in the 31st minute with another Myers goal, this time with a cross from the right side of the field from midfielder Piero Elias.Â
Minutes later, the hosts would quickly score the team’s third goal of the match after a foul in the box. Myers stepped up to take the penalty and converted it with a shot towards the bottom left corner, ending the first half 3-0 to the home team. Â
Coming into the second half, Inter Miami II turned up the pressure, seeking to shorten the deficit with scoring chances from Meek and second-half substitute Miles Perkovich. Despite the strong efforts, New York’s Jonathan Jiménez was able to score the team’s fourth with a through ball pass from forward Ronald Arévalo. NYCFC II then extended its lead once again with forward John Denis sealing the deal and scoring the last goal of the match, making it 5-0 at the final whistle.
The Herons will continue the team’s road trip in Chicago as Inter Miami II is set to take on Chicago Fire II on Sunday, August 13 at 7 p.m. ET at SeatGeek Stadium.
