MATCH RECAP: Inter Miami CF Kicks of Historic 2024 Preseason Against El Salvador at the Estadio Cuscatlán

Inter Miami CF kicked off the Club’s historic 2024 preseason today with an international matchup against El Salvador’s National Team at the Estadio Cuscatlán in San Salvador. The matchup saw the teams play out a scoreless draw in the capital of the Central American nation.

Lineup Notes

Inter Miami fielded a strong starting XI to open the team’s preparations for the 2024 campaign. CJ dos Santos featured in goal; Jordi Alba, Noah Allen, Tomás Avilés, DeAndre Yedlin, and Julian Gressel formed a backline of five; Benjamin Cremaschi, Gregore and Sergio Busquets started in midfield; captain Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez led the team’s attack.

The match saw iconic striker Suárez make his debut for Inter Miami and reunite on the pitch with former Barcelona teammates and fútbol legends Messi, Busquets and Alba. Additionally, current MLS Cup champion and recently signed versatile USMNT player Gressel also made his Club debut on the night as part of the starting XI.

Match Action

The first half presented several exciting moments for the fans in the stands of the Estadio Cuscatlán. Notably, Messi and Alba came close to open the scoring for Inter Miami in the 35th and 39th minute, but El Salvador’s goalkeeper reacted well on both occasions to keep the ball out of the goal.

The second 45 minutes then saw several other players come onto the pitch to register their first minutes during the 2024 preseason: Leonardo Campana, Facundo Farías, Sergii Kryvtsov, Chris McVey, Ryan Saylor and Robert Taylor.

Next, Inter Miami will head to the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Texas to take on FC Dallas on Monday, Jan. 22, before visiting Riyadh, Hong Kong and Tokyo, and returning to South Florida to close out the Club’s historic preseason against Newell’s Old Boys.
