Inter Miami played to a hard-fought 2-1 loss against Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
Despite the result, head coach Phil Neville was still proud of his squad’s overall performance.
“I thought we played some brilliant fútbol, I thought the determination of the team was fantastic, I thought the collective system, the efforts of the players, the belief of the players to win a game of fútbol was as good as it’s been on the road,” said Neville.
Neville believed that the team struggled to finish its chances in crucial moments in the match.
“We have not been ruthless enough in front of goal… I don’t think we’ve created clear-cut opportunities; I’m talking 1v1’s, I’m talking free headers, I’m talking chances in on goal to score goals, and we weren’t ruthless enough. That’s the disappointment.”
Defender Brek Shea was also frustrated with the team’s finishing as the team struggled to convert its chances.
“I think it’s frustrating, we created chances, it's just unlucky… We created the chances and it is just frustrating that we couldn’t put it in,” said Shea.
Shea now wants to quickly look past this game and focus on the team’s final two games of the season, starting with Saturday’s clash against New York City FC.
“Our goal is to focus on the next two games and Saturday is right around the corner so we have to focus on that…. We’re expecting Miami to come out and support us. It can be a big crowd on Saturday and [we’re] excited to play in front of our fans.”
“We want everyone to come out and support us and we want to show the fans what we’ve done the last two home games. [We will provide] exciting games, score goals, show them what we’re about, and finish strong,” concluded Shea.
