Inter Miami midfielder Lee Nguyen, teamed up with New England Revolution’s Zachary Herivaux, advanced to the Athlete Semifinals of the Twitch Rivals SuperGames ft. Fortnite, an event organized in an effort to raise money for charity that features athletes from across several American sports leagues. After taking part in the Athlete Qualifiers on Monday, April 13, Nguyen’s team ranked among the top 50 teams out of 86 and qualified to the next round, which is set to take place on Thursday, April 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. ET on Twitch.tv.
“I think this whole event from Twitch setup where pro athletes in the U.S. are competing for a chance to win money for your choice of charity for the COVID-19 pandemic is great,” said Nguyen. “Just to be able to have a chance to compete in the semifinal round and have the chance to give back to the community is awesome. This is so cool that Twitch has been able to put this together for us during this time.”
Nguyen streamed his participation on his Twitch channel, @MausTrapp. Inter Miami’s George Acosta, Luis Argudo, Jay Chapman and Robbie Robinson also participated in the Athlete Qualifiers.
The participating athletes that advance beyond the semifinals stage will be drafted by professional Twitch Streamers on the official Draft Show set for Monday, April 20. The Twitch Streamers and selected athlete teammates will compete in the finals of the competition on Wednesday, April 22, broadcast on Twitch.tv.
