Passion of the Colombian Clasico Coming to DRV PNK on Saturday, July 8

The biggest rivalry in Colombian fūtbol will be coming to DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday, July 8, when Millonarios FC and Atlético Nacional clash in the Colombian Clasico. The match, regarded as one of the biggest rivalry games in South American fútbol, will take place in South Florida for the first time. The match will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.

This historic matchup between the Medellin and Bogota-based sides features the most emblematic and winningest teams in the history of Colombian fútbol. Additionally, the rivalry will feature two of the three top teams in the Liga BetPlay Dimayor Apertura 2023 standings and that currently are competing in the second phase of the season, and are group leaders in the prestigious continental competitions Copa Libertadores (Atlético Nacional) and Copa Sudamericana and Copa Sudamericana (Millonarios FC).

The Colombian Clasico will continue bringing action from the South American nation to South Florida and Inter Miami CF’s home - following Colombia’s 2-0 win over Paraguay with goals from El TIgre Radamel Falcao and Tottenham Hotspur central defender Davinson Sánchez in November of 2022, and los Millos previous appearance at DRV PNK Stadium facing Argentine giants Club Atlético River Plate in the Duelo de Millonarios earlier this year in January.

Millonarios, widely known as Los Embajadores, have 15 Colombian First Division titles, a CONMEBOL Copa Merconorte title, a Superliga title and three Copa Colombia titles among the silverware in their trophy cabinet. Some of their top talents that featured for the Colombian side include Ballon d’Or winner Alfredo Di Stefano (1949-53), and MLS standouts and MLS Cup winners Chicho Arango (2019-2021) and Román Torres (2012-2015).

Atlético Nacional, meanwhile, boast 17 Colombian First Division titles, two CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores titles, two CONMEBOL Copa Merconorte titles, two Copa Interamericana titles, five Copa Colombia titles, three Superliga titles and a Recopa Sudamericana title in their collection. Among the best players to don La Máquina Verde’s jersey are iconic and extravagant goalkeeper René Higuita (1986-92, 1993-97), current Colombia national team keeper David Ospina (2005-08), 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning Argentine goalkeeper Franco Armani (2010-18), and many others.

DRV PNK Stadium has previously housed numerous international events and teams. In 2022, the stadium saw European giants FC Barcelona play a friendly against Inter Miami, 2022 FIFA World Cup champions Argentina called the team’s facility home-base for a week and trained at DRV PNK Stadium as well, the United States Women’s National Team hosted Germany for a friendly, and Colombia’s win against Paraguay in November. DRV PNK Stadium has already hosted international action in 2023 as well, including a preseason friendly between Vasco da Gama and Inter Miami in January, and will be hosting 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup Prelims and Group Stage fixtures.
