DRV PNK Stadium was treated to a nostalgic night at the Leyendas Conmebol match on Tuesday, Dec. 5. CONMEBOL brought together icons of the fĂștbol world led by Team Samba captain, 2005 Ballon dâOr winner Ronaldinho, and Team Tango captain, former Argentine national team star Sergio âKunâ AgĂŒero.
The match was a tribute to the great talents that have enriched the history of football in Latin America, and an opportunity for new generations of fans to see some of their past heroes in action ahead of Thursdayâs Copa America draw, the international competition set to take place in the United States in 2024.
FĂștbol stars like, Carlos âEl Pibeâ Valderrama, Maxi RodrĂguez and Javier Zanetti featured for Team Tango, while Lucio, Dida, IvĂĄn Zamorano, Jorge Campos played for Team Samba, offering fans a spectacle filled with nostalgia and fĂștbol prowess. FIFA president Gianni Infantino and the greatest sprinter of all time, eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt also showed their talents on the fĂștbol pitch at this great party as well.
Team Samba, coached by legend Francisco âPachoâ Maturana, went ahead and took the 1-0 lead with an opening penalty by Ronaldinho in the 39th minute. Team Tango responded shortly after in the 44th minute with a penalty of their own to even out the scoreline 1-1, with the kick from the spot being converted by the Inter Miami legend himself, Gonzalo HiguaĂn. Within a few minutes of his first goal, HiguaĂn and Team Tango struck again, closing out the first half with a perfectly placed penalty for the former attackerâs second goal of the night back in his former home.
The Conmebol Leyendas match ended with a 2-1 victory for Team Tango over Team Samba and left a lasting impression of respect and nostalgia among the sporting legends.
