Inter Miami CF hosted historic Brazilian side CR Vasco da Gama on Saturday night at DRV PNK Stadium for the Club’s first official friendly of the 2023 preseason. The friendly presented a contested back and forth fixture between the matches as Inter Miami’s fans got to see the team in action for the first time this year.
“We want to promote our young players too, so it was a great night to see them perform at a really good level. I think the second half of the kids were sensational… I think we are in a really really strong position and we are just going to keep building and getting fitter and sharper with more rhythm,” said Inter Miami CF head coach Phil Neville.
The match saw both sides create danger in the opposition’s goal throughout the full 90 minutes, but it was the visitors that came out victorious 0-3 with goals by veteran and Vasco star Nenê, attacker midfielder Alex Teixeira and young forward Lucas Figueredo.
Josef Martínez Presentation
Halftime of the third international friendly in Club history presented a special moment for fans, as Inter Miami’s most recent signing, Venezuelan striker and one-time Landon Donovan MLS MVP award winner Josef Martínez, was unveiled at his new home. Martínez, who’s widely known as El Rey, stepped onto the pitch at DRV PNK Stadium and walked through a tunnel created by fans, season ticket holders, supporters and celebrities before meeting Apple TV host Tony Cherchi at the center circle, dedicating a message to the Club’s fans and snapping a picture with his new jersey alongside Inter Miami CEO and managing owner Jorge Mas, co-owner Jose Mas, and Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
Following the first official friendly of Inter Miami’s 2023 preseason, fans should stay tuned for an exciting fan-facing event set for Saturday, Feb. 18 at DRV PNK Stadium that will include a friendly to conclude the team’s preseason; the opponent for the match and additional details will be announced at a later date.
