This January, DRV PNK Stadium hosted a month packed with exciting international fútbol action at Inter Miami CF’s home ground in front of passionate local fans. International and club sides from around the world came to South Florida to put their talents on display in a trio of unforgettable matchups.
Jan. 13 - Guatemala vs. Iceland
DRV PNK Stadium kicked off 2024 with an international friendly between Iceland and Guatemala, the first-ever matchup between the European and Central American nations. It was forward Ísak Thorvaldsson who placed the ball in the back of the net in the 79th minute. Iceland, becoming the first European men’s national team to visit the Club’s stadium claimed a 1-0 victory over Los Chapines on Saturday, Jan. 13.
Jan. 14 - Club Universitario vs. Atlético Nacional
DRV PNK Stadium’s second international fixture of the month was a night filled with South American passion as Peruvian side Club Universitario and historic Colombian club Atlético Nacional faced each other on Sunday, Jan. 14. Edison Flores scored a free kick to put the Cremas ahead, but at the end of the first half, Dorlan Pabón equalized leaving the scoreline 1-1.
Jan. 17 - Honduras vs. Iceland
To close out this month, DRV PNK Stadium hosted its third international matchup for the start of 2024, Honduras vs. Iceland, the first-ever meeting between the European and Central American nations on Jan. 17. The international clash kicked off around 7:30 p.m. ET as Iceland went ahead and took the lead in the 48th minute with a penalty kick. Kicking off the second half, it was forward Andri Gudjohnsen who gave Iceland a 2-0 final scoreline in the 58th minute.
