Heron Talk presented by Gallagher
As Inter Miami CF carries on with MLS action in the second half of the 2022 regular season, head coach Phil Neville and defender Ryan Sailor met with media members after Thursday’s training session to preview the weekend’s match against New York City FC at the iconic Yankee Stadium. Inter Miami’s match against New York City FC on Saturday, July 23 kicks off at 7 p.m. ET, and marks the club’s first ever visit to this historic stadium.
Neville spoke about the upcoming match, stating his excitement for the occasion and his expectations for the squad.
“We’re going to an iconic stadium, so that’s exciting for us. The players are really excited to go there and perform against the best team in both conferences last year. [NYCFC] has good players, technical players… This is a tough stretch away from home but it’s one we have to attack, one we have to go there and really get the results we need. We’re looking forward to it. The players are excited, and they’re in really good form and spirits.”
Sailor also looked forward to the match, noting that at this point in the season, positive results are the most important thing.
“[NYCFC] is a good team and has good players, but we need to pick up points away from home, so we’re going to come in there with intensity and we’re going to try to [get all three points]. We’re always preparing for every scenario. It’s a very important time. We have six away games in the next 10 games, so our mentality in the second half of the season is to pick up points away from home because that’s going to be key.”
Neville also gave his assessment of New York City FC and how Inter Miami’s mentality will factor into the team’s goal of picking up points on the road.
“They’re a really quality team that plays well in all phases; they build well, they create well, they transition well, so we’re going to have to play as well as we ever have to get three points, but I think this team has got the growth mindset to go there and get a result. I think when you get to this point in the season, you can’t come out of the game thinking next week we’ll bounce back; we have to move forward.”
Inter Miami CF faces New York City FC at Yankee Stadium, on Saturday, July 23 at 7 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed live on My33, UniMás and the Inter Miami App.
