We’re Home: Relive Nu Stadium’s Historic Opening Match

Opener

“We promised this city, on the steps of Miami City Hall, that we would build a stadium that would be the envy of the country… and tonight, here we are, inaugurating our new home… Today, I can tell you: we’ve achieved it,” said Jorge Mas to a packed Nu Stadium as Inter Miami CF continued to make fútbol  history with the opening of its new home in the heart of Miami.

The evening was one that will live on forever in the hearts of Inter Miami CF fans and in the history of the beautiful game, with the grand opening of our new state-of-the-art venue being the culmination of years of work to make our Club’s vision, and that of all fútbol enthusiasts in Miami, a reality.

“This all began with a dream. A dream to create a fútbol club that would be a reflection of our community, of my hometown… But we are not just dreamers, we are men who keep our word. We promised Miami, our fans, that we would build a club that, when people talked about fútbol in the United States, would be synonymous with Inter Miami pink. And we have delivered,” said Mas on the pitch in an emotional pre-match speech. “History is built by the bold, and it remembers winners. And my dear friends, each and every one of you who is part of Inter Miami—we are winners. And starting today, we begin a new chapter—one where we will lift many more trophies, adding to the four that already shine above our La Familia stand.”

“I came to America and MLS 20 years ago with a dream—to win championships, to help grow the game of soccer that I love so much, and one day, to build a club of my own. Thirteen years ago, I announced that Miami was my choice. At the time, we had no name, no badge, and no stadium. Today, I stand here in our new home, as champions of Major League Soccer, with the greatest player in the history of the game wearing our colors. Dreams really do come true,” echoed co-owner David Beckham in similar sentiment. “To our fans—this is your home. La Familia, this is for you. Without you, we are nothing. Your passion, your belief, and your love have carried us to this moment, and we are proud to welcome you home.”

To officially kick off the celebrations, Mas and Beckham were present at the special ribbon ceremony at Nu Stadium’s gates as fans made their way into their new home.

“As we open the gates now, this will be the beginning of more family experiences, that we continue to celebrate championships together, and that we show the world that dreaming everything is possible. So today, from David, the Beckham family, myself, my brother Jose, our wives, and our families, this is our gift to our city and to you. Thank you,” said Mas.

On the field, none other than the best player in history, captain Leo Messi - whose recruitment in 2023 represented a major promise delivered by the ownership group - was in charge of scoring our historic first goal at Nu Stadium. Epically, the Argentine maestro struck in front of La Familia’s, the Club’s official supporter groups' section in the stadium located under the signage immortalizing the four titles won to date in Club history - another promise delivered by our ownership.

Oh, and our second goal at Nu Stadium? It was scored by one of the greatest strikers to ever grace a pitch, Luis Suárez.

“It’s a very special day. The stadium was incredible, completely packed… The stadium is amazing, first class, we have to congratulate the club’s staff for their work to be able to have everything ready for today,” said head coach Javier Mascherano post-game.

“The fans showed out, and the atmosphere is definitely rocking. I think the atmosphere and the vibes in the stadium were great, and we felt it on the field,” shared goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.

“The stadium is very nice… Today was a real celebration; the fans gave us tremendous support from start to finish,” highlighted defender Maximiliano Falcón.

Away from the action on the pitch, a festive atmosphere took over from start to finish with numerous activations for fans of all ages to indulge in. Fans accessed the transformational 131-acre Miami Freedom Park district by both public transportation and driving to enjoy the festivities. In addition to the memorable ribbon cutting, many other activities were available, including the Baptist Health Fan Zone, which was vibing with thrilling activations from Club partners, the largest Team Store in MLS was open for fans to get the latest Inter Miami merch, being capped off by the legend Marc Anthony performing the National Anthem ahead of kickoff.

The fun wasn’t over after the final whistle, as Nu Stadium’s historic opener wrapped up with a bang, with the Modelo After Party on the Terraces, which featured a set from world-renowned, Grammy award-winning producer/DJ, Cedric Gervais.
