First Captain’s Forum Segment to be Dedicated to Honoring Black History Month
Ahead of the 2023 season, the Inter Miami CF Foundation unveiled their newest initiative, Captain’s Forum. Working in close collaboration with Inter Miami First Team players, the IMCF Foundation will be rolling out a mentorship program focused on shaping young leaders in the community by exposing them to “captains” who lead on the pitch.
The season-long initiative will aim to incorporate various awareness moments throughout the year into the program and work alongside numerous community organizations to reach at-risk kids who are in need of positive role models. Recurring subjects in the program will include anti-bullying, leadership, wellness, amongst others.Â
The main goal of Captain’s Forum is to provide the kids with access to team leaders and create opportunities for open discussions where the kids can actively engage in conversations about how to become dynamic changemakers in their community as well as giving them the tools to also become positive role models themselves.
The first Captain’s Forum will take place on Monday, February 20 and will be dedicated to celebrating and honoring Black History Month. High School students from Overtown Youth Center, a youth development program that provides comprehensive services to at-risk youth, will be joining First Team players including Aimé Mabika, Drake Callender, DeAndre Yedlin, and Victor Ulloa at DRV PNK Stadium.
“Creating these opportunities to bring at-risk kids face-to-face with mentors that have the ability to create a lasting impression and impact on the child is priceless,” said Inter Miami CF Foundation Director, Adriana Sandoval. “Our players are not only leaders on the field, but leaders in their communities and they have so much advice and wisdom to share. It’s important for kids to have role models to look up to, and hopefully this program does just that.”Â
The Club and the IMCF Foundation are excited to continue to grow this program, furthering their commitment to the underserved youth in South Florida and actively working to create “captains” off the pitch. Stay tuned later this month to see coverage from the initial Captain’s Forum mentoring session.
