Fort Lauderdale CF will travel to Papillion, Neb., to close out its inaugural USL League One campaign on Saturday, Oct. 24 with its second matchup of the regular season against Union Omaha. The match at Werner Park will kick off at 8 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN+.
“It’s going to be a great match. We had a really nice match with them here a few weeks ago, so we have a real familiarity of what they’re trying to do, what they’re good at and maybe what their weaknesses are as well, and how they exposed us in our game. We’re going to try to cover up a few of those things,” said manager Jason Kreis. “We go into an environment where there’s going to be fans and Omaha has a chance to make the final, so I think it’s going to be an electric game.”
Fort Lauderdale CF will seek a positive result in this weekend’s away match after falling 2-3 against Union Omaha in a highly contested game at Inter Miami CF Stadium the first time the sides met on Sept. 30. Midfielder Eduardo Sosa and 15-year-old winger Felipe Valencia, who is a product of the Inter Miami CF Academy and the youngest goalscorer in USL history, scored the team’s goals in the match.
Most recently, Fort Lauderdale is coming off of a 2-2 draw at home against Forward Madison. The match saw Sosa notch his third goal of the season, while Inter Miami CF Academy products Edison Azcona, 16, and Dairon Reyes, 17, starred; Azcona registered his third assist of the season and Reyes scored his first goal for the team. Overall, the team has recorded four wins, three draws and eight losses in its inaugural USL League One regular season.
Union Omaha, meanwhile, enters the upcoming matchup following a 1-2 win on the road against Greenville Triumph. Omaha currently sits second in the standings, having compiled a record of seven wins, five draws and three losses in 2020, putting them in position to qualify for the 2020 League One Final. The team has been led by forwards Evan Conway and Ethan Vanacore-Decker, who have scored five and three goals respectively.
