Fort Lauderdale CF will wrap up its season against Toronto FC II at BMO Training Ground on Friday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. ET.
“How the team has progressed and developed over the course of the year has been pleasing to see. I think if you look at every individual player on the roster, there has been growth and improvement,” said head coach Darren Powell. “The team wants to finish the season on a high and want to make sure we continue to progress.”
Fort Lauderdale is coming off a narrow home loss to North Texas SC after a highly contested defensive battle. Meanwhile, Toronto FC II is coming off of an away 1-2 win at CHI Memorial Stadium against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
In its second consecutive win, Toronto FC midfielder Paul Rothrock was voted the man of the match after scoring a brace. In addition, defender Kobe Franklin received an honorable mention following his two assists to Rothrock.
This will be the fourth time this season Fort Lauderdale CF and Toronto FC II face off against each other, with the series currently split. In the month of June, Toronto FC II and Fort Lauderdale CF faced each other three times.
A June 16 matchup ended in a 2-2 draw with goals from Venton Evans and Shaan Hundal. Just three days later, the two clubs went back at it where Toronto FC II defeated Fort Lauderdale 2-1 while Josh Penn, on loan from Inter Miami at the time, recorded an early goal in the fourth minute.
Fort Lauderdale CF then defeated Toronto FC II 2-1 at home at DRV PNK Stadium on June 26. Josh Penn opened the game with another early goal, this one coming in the ninth minute. Mitch Curry then scored the go-ahead goal to seal the victory for the hosts.
This season, Toronto FC II has recorded nine wins, nine losses and eight draws earning 35 points in USL League One. Meanwhile, Fort Lauderdale CF has recorded seven wins, 13 losses and seven draws earning a total of 28 points. Fort Lauderdale also enters the match with 38 goals scored, tied for second among League One teams in 2021.
