Fort Lauderdale CF earned a point against the USL League One leaders Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Saturday night, keeping a clean sheet. The scoreless draw at DRV PNK Stadium kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET and aired live on ESPN+.
Within the opening minutes, Fort Lauderdale demonstrated themselves to be a challenge for the goal-seeking Red Wolves; defender Noah Allen entered the left-side of the 18-yard box, sending a shot across the goal but the ball found its way to the other side of the right goal post.
In the following moments, Christian Lue Young blocked a handful of scoring opportunities by the opponents. As the first half winded down, forward Mitch Curry attempted to take the lead for Fort Lauderdale, as he managed to get past the Red Wolves but was denied on his two attempts.
A hungry Fort Lauderdale team returned to the field eager to score after halftime. Shaan Hunday and Curry paired together with a creative play that nearly resulted in a goal, but couldn’t quite find the back of the net. George Acosta made a long run before delivering a strike but was denied by Red Wolves’ goalkeeper Tim Trillk.
In the final minutes of the match, a relentless Braxton Najib took two shots to give his team the victory, but both opportunities were denied by Trillk, who dove to stop the would-be goals. In response, the Red Wolves came close to securing the win with two attempts of their own, but Modesto Mendez put a stop to Ricardo Ruiz’s scoring opportunity with a block.
The game saw impressive performance from goalkeeper Drake Callender, who made many impressive saves and kept a clean sheet.
Next up for Fort Lauderdale is a trip to Arizona as they face off with FC Tucson at Kino North Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 p.m. ET.
