Fort Lauderdale CF earned a 1-2 win over FC Tucson on the road late Saturday night. Two goals in the final minutes of the match saw the visitors come back and earn a late victory. The USL League One matchup kicked off at 10:30 p.m. ET at Kino North Complex and aired live on ESPN+.
Fort Lauderdale CF opened the watch with two first-time starters, as midfielder Rivaldo Ibarra and forward Jerome Kiesewetter entered the starting XI. Ibarra made his debut for the team as a substitute in its last match, while Kiesewetter had made two substitute appearances.
FC Tucson took the lead from the penalty spot in the 55th minute; Giovanni Ramos Godoy stepped up and gave the hosts a 1-0 lead with his successful penalty.
In the 58th minute, Eduardo Sosa, who came on for Ibarra at halftime, drove into the box and was fouled. Lopez-Espin stepped up to the spot, but the goalkeeper guessed correctly and kept the scoreline at 1-0 with a save.
Fort Lauderdale earned an equalizing goal in the 88th minute through a counter started by a diving save by Dylan Castanheira; the ball was quickly played forward to Sosa, who released Kiesewetter into the box. The forward calmly fired in his first goal for Fort Lauderdale, making it 1-1.
Fort Lauderdale continued to attack and was rewarded for its efforts in the fourth minute of second-half added time. Sosa calmly collected a loose ball, cut in on his right foot from the top of the box, and hit a spectacular strike off the far post and in for his first goal with the team and a 1-2 win in the match’s final moments.
Fort Lauderdale CF will return to action on Wednesday, Sep. 30, when it hosts Union Omaha.
