Heron Talk presented by Gallagher
Inter Miami CF clinched its spot in the Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs with a historic 4-1 victory over Orlando City SC Wednesday night at DRV PNK Stadium. The win was the team’s fourth in as many matches and extended its home unbeaten streak to six games.
But despite already achieving its goal of reaching the postseason, the Herons are hungry for more.
The team’s next challenge comes Sunday when they host CF Montréal on Fan Appreciation Day at DRV PNK Stadium in the final game of the regular season.
Head coach Phil Neville met with media members after Friday’s training session and spoke about the team’s desire to continue their strong play deep into the postseason.
“The mood is incredibly high,” Neville said. “We’re in but we’re not done. This is the start, hopefully, of a long successful journey from now to the end of the season. We’re hitting form at just the right time. We’ve got momentum, we’ve got confidence, we’ve got belief, we’ve got the spirit, and we need to keep that going.”
Defender DeAndre Yedlin also spoke with the media and expressed the importance of building off of the playoff-clinching victory.
“There was definitely excitement,” Yedlin said. “We can enjoy the moment but at the end of the day, that was one of our goals but it wasn’t the final goal. Our final goal is to win the MLS Cup so we still have steps to take along the way to get there.”
Yedlin, who has started in 32 matches this season, also emphasized the team’s eagerness to play in front of the home fans one last time during the regular season on Fan Appreciation Day.
“We’re really excited,” he said. “All the guys couldn’t stop talking about how great the atmosphere was on Wednesday. We’re hoping that we can replicate that on Sunday. The fans have been great all year for us. Our home record has been incredible and that’s a big part of it. You have to give a lot of credit to the fans for that. So Sunday, hopefully it’s no different, hopefully it’s the best crowd we’ve gotten all year.”
Inter Miami enters Decision Day fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference Standings. A win against CF Montréal and a New York Red Bulls loss or draw against Charlotte FC would push Inter Miami into fourth place in the Eastern Conference and set up the first-ever playoff match at DRV PNK Stadium.
Inter Miami will look to do its part in securing that fourth-place finish Sunday afternoon against CF Montréal. Kickoff at DRV PNK Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
Tickets for Inter Miami CF’s final regular season home match against CF Montréal start at just $25 dollars. Purchase your discounted tickets HERE.
