Inter Miami CF Transfers Homegrown Player Edison Azcona to Las Vegas Lights FC
Azcona permanently joins USL Championship side following loan
On January 26, 2021, Edison Azcona became the second Inter Miami CF Academy graduate to be signed to the First Team as a Homegrown Player. Azcona then became the first Inter Miami CF Academy product to feature for the First Team when he appeared as a substitute against Nashville SC in an MLS regular season match in May 2021.Â
In 2020, Azcona stood out in his first season at the professional level as an Academy registered player for Inter Miami CF II, earning a pair of end-of-season honors for his performance; the Dominican winger was named to the USL League One All-League Second Team, and was nominated as a finalist for the USL League One Young Player of the Year award.
On the international front, Azcona has previously featured for the Dominican Republic’s U-20, U-23 and senior sides. Notably, he made history with his country at the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship, captaining the side in its run to the final of the tournament, qualifying for the FIFA World Cup U20 in Indonesia 2023 and the 2024 Summer Olympics in the process, both firsts in the country’s history.
